the brief.

Vert partnered with Squad Ink on the concept and design of the Papa Salt Coastal Gin Bottle. Branding agency Squad Ink provided the initial concept directions, briefing and brand essence of Papa Salt, whilst Vert was responsible for design realisation.

Squad Ink specified colours and the matt sea glass appearance, as well as the graphics on the bottle and their placement. Vert’s responsibility was to translate these ideas into something that could be embossed and moulded.

the first concepts.

The Papa Salt Coastal Gin Bottle’s design process began with Squad Ink’s initial brief translated into handcrafted drawings.

These sketches, focusing on overall shape and textures, were digitally refined in Photoshop. This section highlights the seamless integration of traditional and digital methods, forming the foundation for the distinctive design of the bottle.

the refinement.

The bottle’s form is dynamic, transitioning between a distinct front profile that feels proud with broad shoulders, and a side profile that is more humble and slim. These contrasting profiles offer a narrow and broad surface that curves nicely in the hand.

The design intent was to “embrace modern techniques to achieve hand-made traits” and this is achieved through the form that is reminiscent of an old bottle you’d find in an ocean. The wrapped lip detail mimics the look and feel of traditional glass-making processes and pays homage to this tradition.

Design Development.

Proceeding from initial concepts, the Papa Salt Coastal Gin Bottle underwent a crucial phase in its development through 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD). This step aimed at visualising and fine-tuning the design to align with manufacturing requirements.

The use of 3D CAD provided a platform for precise design adjustments, ensuring the translation of the concept into a manufacturable product. This objective approach focused on refining the bottle’s structure, meeting both aesthetic goals and practical considerations, including the specified 700ml volume.
